Wednesday night I received a text from a friend to meet her at a local bar, so I made my way to the bar “Losers” for a night out. When I showed up she was already having a drink with a guy that she knows, who just so happened to write several of Rascal Flatts’ hit songs. There was songwriters round had at the bar next door “Winners” (no I am not making this up) but they wanted to finish their drinks first. We stuck around, and I am glad that we did. In mere minutes we met Chris Young (if you like country you will know his charting song “Tomorrow”), and then we met Larry. Larry and his wife didn’t talk to us for very long, but he co-wrote a little ditty back in the day called “The Wind Beneath My Wings”. Probably insignificant to most people, but this is a huge deal for me. In fact, this is so significant that a separate, future blog is needed for an explanation.

We finished our drinks and we made our way over to “Winners”. There we saw three rounds of music, each better than the last.
Bruce Wallace, and Amanda Flynn were first and amazing. You should definitely check them out. Then to follow was Hillary Lindsay. Hillary and her co-writer Shane Stevens sang a nice little song that you have probably heard before entitled “American Honey.” What, what!?!?! For realsies. Yeah the one that Lady Antebellum sings. I could list this girl’s credits, but it would pretty much take up the whole page, but it includes Carrie Underwood, Sarah Evens, and Taylor Swift.

The night already gets a golden star, but this is just the start folks.
Next up was Sarah Buxton (who I have a musical crush on), Jeff Steven’s, and Emily Shackelton. Sarah is divine, and has written Keith urban hits, every time she performed I just hoped that she would keep going. Then there was Jeff Steven’s who wrote several George Strait hits. It was crazy, and it didn’t cost me a cent. I just sat and listened to some of the greatest radio hits being performed by their writers, and it was all free.

My friend and I left, and went to another bar, where she knew the guys playing. Their group was awesome. Then they had a up a guest artist, by the name of Adam Craig. Never heard of him? Neither had I. You will soon, he was just signed to Sony Records. Adam co-wrote “Church Pew or Bar Stool” for Jason Aldean. Adam played a song which will be on the next Jason Aldean album, so we got a nice preview.
I am not star struck, and I am not trying to name drop, I realize that most people don’t care about the writers, but what I am blown away by is the level of talent in Nashville. I have never found such amazing talent, so easily as I do here – it is truly inspiring.
I ended the night by floating in the above ground pool, where I am house sitting. It was nice at the time, but the mosquitoes had a field day on my butt. Boo insects that bite.
I LOVE THIS TOWN!
